Coyotes On Frozen Hudson River 2015

The Winter of 2015 was a record-breaker for low temperatures and ice formation–especially on the Hudson River in NY. While it made it hard for ships and barges to move along the river, it opened up a safe path for coyotes! This pack of 4 was trying to get back across the river just North of Cold Spring, NY, but kept getting cut off by tugboats and Coast Guard cutters trying to free a frozen oil barge. At one point, two of the coyotes decided to “break the ice” while a barge passed by. Guess that’s one way to stay warm in 8 degree weather! Shot all of these 28-MP photos with the new Samsung NX1 and 50-150mm lens. You can watch a 4K UHD movie I made of the coyotes HERE.
