Michael J. McNamara is the former Executive Technology Editor of Popular Photography Magazine, and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the McNamaraReport.com. During his 25-year career as a photojournalist (17-years at Pop Photo), he has written hundreds of articles on photography and had thousands of his photographs published including over two dozen cover images. His work has also appeared in Outdoor Photographer, Digital Photo Pro, Fit Yoga, American Photo, Professional Photographer, Woman’s Day, Boating, Travel Holiday, American Baby, and Stuff magazines. In 2008 he opened In-Depth Focus Labs, and posts his findings on a wide variety of imaging-related products and topics on his website and on his YouTube Channel.
Mike is also an advanced underwater photographer and videographer, and in 2009 completed a documentary for the U.N.’s World Heritage Photo Project on the Great Barrier Reef, as well as another on the Wet Tropics of Queensland, Australia.
In 1990 he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Imaging and Photographic Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology, and previously studied Oceanography at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Mike currently lives with his wife and three sons in the Mid-Hudson Valley, NY., one of the most beautiful areas in the country–and he has pictures, videos, and stories to prove it!
